How often do you wake up pounding the alarm clock?
You refuse to get out of bed you tell yourself. Just one more minute!
One more second.
You slowly roll out of bed. Your body stiff. Your eyes mostly shut.
It’s a new day you say in an unmotivated voice.
Yet, the morning is the start of your next 24-hour life.
“The morning is a critical time that can set the tone for the entire day” — and your short- and long-term health says Goel — a biological psychologist.
So what do you need to do, to wake up refreshed and ready to take charge of your day?
One, you need to get a great night sleep, then, do these five things as soon as your feet hit the floor.
Drink a 16oz glass of water, lemon juice, apple cider vinegar, and a pinch of sea salt
As you sleep you become dehydrated and your body does all sorts of neat and funky things.
Which is why, as soon as you wake up, you need to replenish your body.
This morning elixir adds a quick infusion of minerals into your system.
A splash of lemon.
According to Wellness Mama,
“The liver is extremely active during sleep since this is the body’s time to restore and regenerate. Drinking enough water, especially in the morning, helps make sure that the body can perform these jobs most effectively. There is even some evidence that lemon juice can help stimulate proper stomach acid production and bile production.”
A tablespoon of organic Apple Cider Vinegar (ACV)
Taking ACV in the morning will help detox and cleanse your liver, as well as clearing out bacteria in your body.
A pinch of salt
According to Dr. Linus Pauling, two-time Nobel Prize winner, “You can trace every sickness, every disease, and every ailment to a mineral deficiency.”
Adding a pinch of sea salt to your morning water adds barium, bismuth, chromium, magnesium, selenium, zinc, titanium and B2 trace minerals first thing in the morning.
It helps hydrate you and get your day started the right way.
Get your blood pumping in the sun
As you clunk out of bed, drink your morning elixir, now it’s time to get outside and get the blood pumping through your body.
A five to ten-minute yoga routine or a walk is excellent.
You don’t need to run a marathon.
Getting sunlight first thing in the morning tells your body clock it’s time to start the day.
And getting the blood flowing helps you wake up, get energized and keeps you healthy and active.
Exercise releases endorphins — chemicals produced in the brain that help minimize pain and discomfort and increase well-being (essentially the body’s own painkillers).
Fire up your mental engine with organic, single origin coffee
There’s a lot of data showing how coffee helps people feel more alert and less groggy.
But not any coffee will do.
Organic, single origin, fair trade coffee is better for many reasons.
One, it’s healthier, has fewer chemicals and adds more vitamins and minerals to your day.
Two, it’s better for the environment, unlike conventional coffee, organic coffee does not promote deforestation.
Three, it supports the farmers, certified organic coffee are fair trade compliant which guarantees a higher pay rate to employees.
Eat a quality breakfast
Don’t pour your high-carb cereal and run out the door.
Make a well-balanced breakfast that has healthy fats, quality protein and the right amount of carbs.
When you start your day with sugar, you increase glucose, and you begin to crash shortly after. Just as the day is getting good.
You’ll also feel more hungry throughout the day.
Fuel your body, your mind, and tackle your day, with the right energy to last you from dusk till dawn.
Don’t take life so seriously.
Popping out of bed and rushing into the whirlwind of the day isn’t a great way to start your day.
At this point, you’ve rehydrated, you’ve fired your engine with quality coffee, and you’ve fueled your body with good food, now go play a little.
Laugh. Run around with your children outside. Tickle them. Tickle your spouse.
Start your day with a smile, and it’ll follow you the rest of the day.
Take these simple steps into your day and watch life become more exciting, energetic and fun.
Live life, each and every day. Start it the right way.
